Knitted Knockers

Volunteer Spotlight: Sew Blessed of Weatherford, Texas

When Jane Adams first reached out to Knitted Knockers, she worried her church sewing group might not be able to help.

Most members of the “Sew Blessed” group at First Methodist Church in Weatherford, Texas didn’t knit or crochet. Still, Jane knew the women wanted to serve others in meaningful ways.

Then they discovered something simple but powerful: Knitted Knockers volunteers also need help stuffing knockers made by knitters and crocheters around the country.

The group immediately jumped in.

“Our group has already made hundreds of heart pillows and port bags,” Jane shared. “This is perfect for ladies who need to sit and don’t sew well but still want to feel useful.”

Sew Blessed quickly adopted local medical clinics to help distribute the knockers they stuffed, creating a direct connection between their volunteer work and the women receiving comfort and care after mastectomy surgery.

After completing their first shipment of 18 knockers, the group gathered together as their pastor offered a special blessing over the knockers before they were sent on their way.

One associate pastor, who had never heard of Knitted Knockers before, even tried one herself. She happily replaced her traditional silicone prosthesis with a Knitted Knocker and responded with a big smile.

For Jane, the project became personal after her niece, a nurse practitioner, shared how difficult it was to keep prostheses available for patients.

“She is the one who put this project on my heart,” Jane said.

Today, Sew Blessed continues stuffing knockers and sharing kindness with women they may never meet, proving that there are many ways to support the Knitted Knockers mission.

Their story is a beautiful reminder that every helping hand matters. 💕
