I heard about Knitted Knockers from my husband’s niece, who is a nurse. I had a left breast mastectomy during the pandemic. Then, a failed diep flap plastic surgery reconstruction. It was devastating. The knitted knocker helps make me look balanced. Otherwise, it looks terrible. I am cancer free five years this September and very grateful to God and my family. I wear knitted knockers every day and for swimming too. I have so much scarring from the botched reconstruction that I can’t even get an implant for the left breast. They have helped me heal and make me feel whole. Having my figure is important to me and all of us women. I will always use these for the rest of my life. I appreciate and send love to all of the volunteers who create these for us survivors.
I am blessed to be alive after the botched reconstruction, and I am grateful to be a five-year cancer-free survivor. I was relieved that there was a solution for me as the three-D prosthetic with nipple my husband bought me was $4,000, and it was heavy and uncomfortable. Steve would do anything for me to feel better and heal. I always share knitted knockers with other survivors, as they have helped me feel and look normal. It is a saving grace for us women who go through mastectomies and fight cancer, and continue to live as survivors with the scars. Thank you all for this gift. – Lisa
I was diagnosed in 2012, and praise God, I have been cancer-free since. When I first received my order, I was so appreciative to the women who made them. The softness of the yarn felt amazing. After surgery, that time of my life when I saw the changes to my body, it was very emotional. Trying different prostheses, they didn’t feel natural; however, after I received my knitted knocker, I really liked them and continue wearing it daily. I am grateful for the team of caring volunteers who make them with love. This organization and its volunteers are making a way to add beauty and dignity to women around the world with these simple knitted products.
To this day, I still wear my handmade knocker. It is soft and durable. I actually prefer the knocker over using the prosthetic, which feels heavy in comparison. The appearance under my clothing looks very natural. The knockers help build self-esteem when a woman looks at her body after surgery and gives her a sense of beauty and dignity. In my original order, I was sent two different sizes and a knocker for swimming, which I thought was an essential item to have on hand. Thank you and blessings to all. Ruby M
Thank you “Viv” for making my perfect second knitted knocker. They are so perfect in shape and comfy to wear and I no longer use my silicone breast form as it always felt too heavy. Keep up the good work ladies as you are providing a fantastic product for those unfortunate to have undergone mastectomies. 🤗🙏
My knitted knockers make it possible for me to wear things that I want to wear with my favorite bras and depending on the action that I want I put a half dollar or silver dollar into the center for a really natural movement. Great for dancing at my granddaughter’s wedding.
My first cancer diagnosis was in 2018, the second in 2020. The second cancer diagnosis was especially disheartening. At age 60, I had no desire for reconstruction. I just wanted to be done with cancer. A mastectomy with no reconstruction was my best option. After healing well, the prosthetic I used was heavy, hot, and uncomfortable on my healing breast area. Frustration was at an all-time high.
While traveling, airport security flagged me because of my prosthetic, leading to several embarrassing moments, which always left me crying. I felt helpless, not knowing how to avoid this embarrassment. My husband reminded me about Knitted Knockers. He said it wouldn’t show up in an X-ray. I immediately went online and filled out my request. The process was very easy, cost me nothing, and I received my first knitted knocker in about 3 weeks.
It’s hard to explain how this simple, perfectly fitting, lightweight breast replacement liberated me. No more special bras with a pocket. I use any bra I want and just tuck my kk in place. It’s very soft (although I have no nerves), and my skin is not bothered at all. I have not used my prosthetic since receiving my knitted knockers. I love having the kk because it’s a simple solution to a big emotional and physical challenge.
After several years of using my original kk, I realized I needed two extra ones. That way, I won’t be without it while waiting for one to dry after hand washing. Also, I keep a backup in my car in case I forget to tuck my kk in my bra. That just happened yesterday. After I noticed it was missing, I was embarrassed and panicked. I retreated to my car because I knew my emergency backup was there.
I thank you for the three knitted knockers that I have received. They are my security, and they help me forget I had cancer (4 years cancer-free). Knitted Knockers are a lifeline to those trying to navigate real life after a mastectomy. They make me look normal in my clothes.
I remember the moment I opened my first (one kk) and second (2kk’s) packages. Every morning when I reach for my kk, I’m reminded how a volunteer felt led to use their talent to help a cancer survivor in need. It’s very moving. Thank you for getting the word out by beginning a newsletter. This is a vital lifeline to those, like me, wanting an option from heavy and expensive prosthetics. Forever grateful for helping me to move on past cancer,
Melissa H.
I am a retired nurse and had double mastectomy after diagnosis of DCIS in 2021. My diabetic educator at the time told me about it after my surgery.
It was a wonderful feeling receiving them – so appreciated! It was the first introduction to any type of prosthetic. They looked so pretty and were perfect as an introduction to wearing over the surgical sites.
They showed so much careful work, were so pretty, and the knitting so perfect. It was so uplifting to receive them at a very depressed time. To anyone who is able to make them – I’m sure every woman receiving them would truly appreciate it! B.O.
I just wanted to thank everyone involved with KK I just received my lefty and can’t wait to use it .
My mum had cancer in 2010, since then she has been using the same prosthesis because we can’t afford a new one. Fortunately, I found this page and I’m so very grateful for your help. It’s a relief for me that she has something comfortable and pretty. Thank you so so so much and God bless y’all.
I received my Knitted Knockers a few weeks ago, and I love how easy they are to slip into a comfy sports bra for when I’m in the house or have to run out for an errand and don’t want to take the extra time to put on my bra with the breast forms. Thank you so much for providing these at no cost to women like me who have lost our breasts.
I had my first breast cancer in 2002 I went for a long time just using my bra to go on hold everything in but everything popped out. I had my second breast cancer in 2015 and found out I had the mutation so I went with a bilateral mastectomy. At that time a friend of mine husband saw a commercial for knitted knockers, and I ordered some I had been wearing the very expensive ones I got from the dealers I put on my first pair, and I have never worn anything else since then.
